CORPORATE CASE STUDIES

  • Eigen supports leading UK construction company in developing an innovative platform to track and reduce on-site carbon emissions

Over two years, Eigen supported a leading UK construction company developing an innovative platform to track and reduce on-site carbon emissions. With multiple on-site stakeholders, Eigen mapped and validated the benefits and motivations of adopting the technology for each group and then assessed the broader strategic value of the data being generated which could significantly augmented the value proposition. Eigen advised on the options best suited to a corporate for commercialising an internally developed innovation and helped the lead innovator build internal corporate champions to drive demonstration projects leading to commercial roll-out.

  • Eigen supports a multinational electronics business to spin-out a retrofit PV-Thermal Heat Pump system

Eigen helped evaluate optimal commercialisation options and implement the plan. This included (i) gathered feedback from route to market partners on interest and installation/ performance requirements, (ii) sourced, screened and introduced potential UK manufacturing partners, (iii) surveyed and then selected two installers for a pilot roll-out, (iv) scoped/ co-managed a survey of c.6000 ‘early adopters’ (v) developed financial and user pay-back models, (vi) costed up and co-write a ‘successful’ £1m grant application for the pilot roll-out. Finally, Eigen sourced and introduced a prospective spin-out business partner/ investor.

  • Hydrogen Project Funding Study

On behalf of the Energy Systems Catapult/ Hydrogen Innovation Initiative, in 2024 Eigen interviewed 40 banks, insurers, project developers, advisers and Government entities on how to debt finance hydrogen production facilities ('HPFs'), in particular those receiving subsidies under the HPBM prorgramme. Eigen made recommendations on the commercial and financial aspects of developing HPFs and how to improve access to limited recourse project finance for such first-of-a-kind (FOAK) projects
