SME CASE STUDIES

  • Hydrogen to SAF SME

Expert sector support from Eigen over a 2-year period helped this hydrogen technology SME broaden its market focus to include Sustainable Aviation Fuel rather than just e-Gasoline/e-Diesel. Business development support enabled valuable introductions to DAC companies, one of which became a project partner. Further partners were identified in the cement and zero-emission bus sectors. Eigen also evaluated the market for a novel hydrogen compressor developed by the SME. This package of support led to commercialisation of its hydrogen compressor and a partnership with an oil major and an airline to develop a decentralised SAF business.

  • Floating Offshore Wind Project Developer SME

Eigen provided expert mentoring and task support to the leadership team of an offshore wind developer over a two-year period. Financing, tax and regulatory guidance supported the bidding process for offshore licences. This was complemented by coaching around building and incentivising a team. Eigen support helped lead to a successful bid for three INTOG floating wind sites off Scotland and the company has gone on to expand its team and build up the consortium for the development delivery.

  • Home Heating Advisory Platform SME

Over two years, Eigen provided coaching and task support to an SME developing a platform to drive heat pump uptake to households. Eigen crafted delivery of marketing support to drive interest and uptake of the new service. Eigen experts delivered investor readiness coaching to support the CEO in fundraising efforts  and also provided expert organisational development guidance to ensure the company was in the right shape for scaling. Support has helped the company raise £1m from Angel investors, extend its team, broaden its service offering and secure several strong partnerships with local authorities.

  • Agritech Spin-Out

Eigen brought its combined experience in investment, start-up formation, business planning and contractual arrangements to guide and help the team decide on their optimum approach (company format, cap-table, leadership team, business model) for commercialisation of this technology – in a way that would make it investable. This package of support helped the team develop a pitch which won a $1m award from the Milken-Motsepe Prize in Green Energy, to secure agreement on a spinout from the University of Loughborough, to identify a detailed go-to-market strategy and customer recruitment profile and the company is now expanding the number of installations in Africa.

  • Kinetic energy storage SME

Eigen provided expert mentoring and task support over a two-year period. Business development support included facilitating a feasibility study with a UK tram network while extensive leadership and team coaching ensured the company embedded the right role responsibilities and ways of working to maximise performance. During the mentor period, Eigen helped guide the team through a successful fundraise, the company ran a technology demo together with an international OEM and secured a commercial product trial with UK's National Highways.
